Visiting Cong or Ashford Castle?

congfestivalCong is a beautiful village located on the borders of County Mayo and County Galway in the west of Ireland.

Besides a visit to our bookshop (located conveniently on the corner of the Main Street) there are many things to do and places to visit around the village. From cycling to horse riding, falconry to fishing there are lots of activities for all the family to enjoy. And if you just prefer to relax and take life easy the village offers many fine eating places.

congabbeyCong is home to Cong Abbey and the twelfth century ruins of the Abbey and its grounds may be explored. The cloisters and yew shaded grounds are the perfect place to while away a summers afternoon reading a book, and if you are lucky you may see the red squirrels or pine martens.

Across the river from the abbey you can access the forest which is home to caves, castles and a fairy tale tower built by the Guinness Family in the 19th century. There are many miles of trails to walk or cycle. If you enjoy history there is also the Heritage Trail around the village. The Trail brochure is available for sale in the bookshop.
